Five Lakes (world-of-indian) - The new edition of "Amerindian Research", popular science, the German-Indian Journal of Indian cultures from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, released.
Just one year after the return of Prince Maximilian of Wied and Karl Bodmer by their North American tour of the published natural historian Heinrich Rudolf Schinz (1777-1861), three Indians Bodmer's portraits as lithographs. With this and the following publications Schinz provided a significant contribution to change in the Indian image in Europe. In
contains a richly illustrated article, also published the first time lithographs, conveys the author Peter Bolz by the Berlin Ethnology Museum for the first time an overview of all Bodmer lithographs that have been out against Schinz from 1835-1845.
The focus of the article by Katerina Klapstova (Náprstek Museum Prague) is a bison robe Dakota, the 1858 by Vojta Náprstek brought to Prague. Here, the adventurous life of the late founder of the museum is as exciting as the history of bison robe.
Another article deals with the painter Thomas Cole and the socially critical aspect in his works. Joest Leopold presents one of the most famous representatives of the Hudson River School, addressing the central motifs of his artistic work.
