Interview with Ernst Probst, author of the paperback "Machbuba. The slave and the Prince "(GRIN for academic texts)

Question: Mr. Probst, how and when did you get the idea, a Paperback writing about the Ethiopian slave girl Machbuba and the German Prince Hermann of Pückler Muskau?
Answer: About Machbuba I have 2001 in my pocket book 'Super Women 1 - History "published a short biography. This, however, included only two and a half pages and showed only three images. In the spring of 2010 I came to produce the idea of Machbuba a brochure with a maximum of 40 pages. But the subject fascinated me so much that more than 130 pages was comprehensive paperback with numerous illustrations.
* Question: What attracted you to Machbuba and Pückler particularly fascinating?
Answer: The very young have been Ethiopian, a person with character and charisma. Otherwise they would have drawn the German princes Pückler not for years under her spell. Finally Pückler in Europe, Africa and Asia wrong with emperors, kings, princes, artists and attractive ladies. Pückler itself must also have been an unusual personality. Just think of his success in polite society, the military, as a writer and a gifted designer of parks.

Question: Was there something she has in your research for your pocketbook on Machbuba and Pückler particularly surprised?
Answer: For me, it was striking how different it is judged Pückler by critics. Some writers extol Pückler like he was a superman. Other authors, however, criticize his relationship with Machbuba in the strongest terms: as a bourgeois allure of a royal dandies, as colonialist imperialism critical, feminist as hostile to women and social policy as pedophilia. The truth is likely, as so often, somewhere in the middle.
* Question: Do you think that the prince had a sexual relationship with the slave?
Answer: The answer to this question is not easy. read About Pückler one that is very different things. On the one hand, he should have had more scandals than the great seducer Casanova wife, on the other hand, he fathered a single child, and one author even keeps him impotent. slave and mistress of a German prince in the 19th Machbuba Century might have been (for 1823-1840). The dark-skinned beauty from Ethiopia was bought by the noble Prince Hermann von Pückler Muskau (1785-1871) at the slave market in Africa. She then joined his companion, nurse and lover.
