The recovery in the sea became established since 19 Century in the Baltic Sea region as an international phenomenon. Small fishing towns on the Baltic Sea developed mainly by the gradual growth of tourism to known seaside resorts. There met in the 19 and 20 Century, people of different nationalities. The everyday practice of the summer visitors were strolling on the promenade, visiting cultural events, excursions to the nearby villages, sports, games and international conversation. A look at the history of the individual Baltic resorts in the east and west can see many similarities in the bath essence and everyday life. The use of bath cart, the emergence of men's and women's bathrooms, or the resort architecture on Usedom, in East Prussia or the Gulf of Riga are just some examples that demonstrate the transnational physiognomy of these places. The volume contains 14 reviews on politics, culture and daily life of seaside resorts in Germany, Poland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the 19th and 20 Century.

Kurilo Eastern Europe is qualified historian. Since 2004 she teaches at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder). Her research interests include the history of the Baltics, the development of tourism in the Baltic region and the history of Germans in Eastern Europe.

An example: The policy advocates for better educational opportunities. This is certainly good and right. But the children who now have to go to soup kitchens, can not wait until they have an optimum degree. With an empty stomach can not learn it well ...
